"In the years that I have been teaching music, it seemed a vital part of learning to share music was missing. I found it necessary to take steps to make it possible for my students to learn to share music comfortably with others. With my husband's help, I created an environment where you can grow individually and learn to play around others as well as with others". -Susan Gorman

THAT IS WHY WE TEACH MUSIC

Not because we expect you to major in music
Not because we expect you to play or sing all your life
But- So you can relax
        So you can have fun
        So you will be human
        So you will recognize beauty
        So you will be sensitive
So you will be closer to an infinite beyond this world
So you will have something to cling to
So you will have more love, more compassion,
more gentleness, more good- in short, more life.
Of what value will it be to make a prosperous living unless you know how to live?
THAT IS WHY WE TEACH MUSIC

A SUCCESFUL TEACHER NEEDS...

... the education of a college president
... the executive ability of a financier
... the humility of a deacon
... the adaptability of a chameleon
... the hope of an optimist
... the courage of a hero
... the wisdom of a serpent
... the gentleness of a dove
... the patience of Job
... the Grace of God, and
... the persistence of the devil.

And finally, I will quote Plato: "Those having torches will pass them on to others."

Now it's your turn to CARRY THE FIRE!

Our Mission

Piano Tunes Academy strives to nurture the creative, artistic, music-loving individual to learn to play, read, write and share music confidently and comfortably with others. Structured individual instruction sets the stage for each student to succeed musically and in life by practicing concentration, self-discipline, and self-confidence. Dedication to these principles ensures a lifetime of sharing music publicly as a teacher, accompanist, soloist, or member of a duet, trio, or quartet.

If you are thinking of taking music lessons or stopping music lessons read this first.

We all know that there are benefits to music education. Most of us are unclear as too just what kind and how many benefits there are. I began putting together resources to share and before I knew it there were over 18 pages with still more studies and facts to report. There were no negative facts to report.

The truth of the matter is that it has been proven over and over again that music aides in the development of the brain. Music helps us become better, smarter, empathetic, more accepting of others, less anxious, more refreshed people. Students with musical education attend college at a rate at twice the national average. The list will go on.

  • From sources all over the world you can find all positive statistics, and studies. It is proven to increase IQ scores, science and math scores go up, students are less likely to substance abuse, Sat scores are higher, behavior problems are reduced. Music puts students in a happier, friendlier mood, it helps students to become more self disciplined. It provides an acceptable form of self expression.

  • Early musical training helps to develop brain areas involved in language and reasoning. Musical studies help to develop the left side of the brain. There is also a casual link between music and spatial intelligence (the ability to perceive the world accurately and to form mental pictures of things).Students of the arts learn to think creatively and to solve problems by imagining various solutions.

  • Students of music learn craftsmanship as they study how details are put together and what constitutes good, as opposed to mediocre, work. These standards when applied to a student’s own work, demand a new level of excellence and require students to stretch their inner resources.

In music a mistake is a mistake; the instrument is either in tune or not. It is only by hard work that a successful performance is possible. Through music study, students learn the concrete rewards of hard work.

Music study enhances team work and discipline. Music study develops skills that are necessary in the work place. It focuses on doing as opposed to observing.

Music performance teaches young people to conquer fear and take risks. A little anxiety is a good thing, and something that will occur often in life. Dealing with it early and often makes it less of a problem later. Risk taking is essential for the child to develop to his or her full potential.

There are many medical benefits as well. It is used in therapy sessions of all kinds, has been proven to lower blood pressure and heart rates, and aides in alzheimers patients. I am sure there are many more examples of this. You can do another search if you are interested in this.

These are not opinions but based on facts. I have many and if you are interested I would be happy to share them with you. However, if you’d rather sit and relax in the comfort of your own home and at your computer desk, do a search for the benefits of music education. You’ll be amazed at what you find, the benefits seem endless.
